Sticks and Stones

"Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me."

How so untrue is that saying? Over the years I've experienced words can cut deeper than any knife. Knock you out faster than any hammer. Words are so hurtful that it can stay with you many years. It can cause so much damage to the soul. When the soul is damaged everything else falls apart. But, there is healing in the name of Jesus. There is freedom in the name of Jesus. The bible warns us how powerful the tongue can be (Proverbs 18:21). But, we continue to throw things out like we can just take it back. No matter how much we say we are sorry, the scars are still there.

It's not always easy to think before we speak. But, we can pray that God will hold back the hurtful words before they can cause any damage. Be mindful of how you would feel if you was spoken to, the way you speak to others. Words can break up friendships, marriages, it can also break someones self esteem. Just because of a senseless heated moment. There is life and death in the tongue.  Guard your tongue with the word of God.

The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.~ James 3:6(NIV)

Prayer: God, I know I said some bad things to others in my life. I pray that if I caused anyone pain, that they may have complete healing. Forgive me Father and give me the wisdom and the self control that I may not cause anymore pain. Heal me also for the pain someone else has caused me. I am not those words. I am your child. Thank you Lord for forgiving me and them as well. Amen.
